Since its introduction, the Maria da Penha Law has encouraged reports of aggression. However, the path from reporting to punishing the aggressor often faces obstacles.
Therefore, the provision of this assistance is vital to breaking the cycle of domestic violence. It provides victims with the material and financial means to overcome the emotional and economic restrictions imposed by their aggressors, as highlighted by Councilwoman Júlia Casamasso.
Project awaits Executive approval
Firstly, statistics from the CRAM in Petrópolis reveal an increase in cases of aggression against women in the area. In August of this year alone, 133 cases were reported, marking an increase of 66,25% compared to the same month in 2022.

Therefore, Casamasso expressed her desire to incorporate a budget projection for 2024, with the aim of ensuring that beneficiaries receive the aid as soon as possible. In addition, she highlighted that the investment in this assistance has a small impact on the public budget, but presents a great transformation in the lives of women victims of domestic violence.
In conclusion, the Bill awaits approval from the Executive to be put into practice, hoping to help women who are victims of domestic violence in Petrópolis.
