Thousands of Brazilians may be in the situation of having “forgotten money” in financial institutions, and now they have the opportunity to recover these amounts. The Central Bank (BC) announced this Monday (22) that withdrawals of funds left untouched in bank accounts for long periods of time are now available to all citizens.

These funds, known as “receivable amounts,” often come from inactive accounts, forgotten bank deposits, or even unclaimed dividends from shares. In the past, recovering these funds involved significant complexity, but thanks to new regulations, the process is now simplified.

The amounts, which together total billions of reais, will be released gradually according to a schedule established by the BC, starting with customers with the smallest balances.

“The initiative is part of the BC’s commitment to guaranteeing the rights of financial consumers and promoting financial inclusion in the country,” said the president of the BC, stating that “this money belongs to citizens and should be returned to them”.

To claim these amounts, citizens must follow the following steps:

1. Access the Central Bank website or your bank’s app;

2. Locate the “Amounts receivable” query option;

3. Enter your personal information for identification and authentication;

4. If there is any amount to be claimed, the website or app will provide detailed instructions for withdrawing it.

We remind you that banks will not charge fees for these transactions, so if someone requests payment to process the withdrawal, it is probably a scam. In addition, any problem or difficulty encountered during this process can be reported directly to the Central Bank.

This is a great opportunity for people to recover money they have forgotten in banks over the years. Therefore, do not waste time, check whether you have any amount to receive and exercise your right.
