The economic group of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's government predicts an increase of 7,65% in the minimum wage, raising the amount to R$ 1,421. This forecast is included in the 2024 budget proposal (PLN/29/23), which was presented to the National Congress last August.

According to the proposal, revenue is estimated to cover expenses of R$2.2 trillion, culminating in a fiscal balance. Experts from the Ministry of Finance indicate a surplus of R$2.8 billion. However, according to the new fiscal structure, this target will only be achieved if there is a deficit or surplus that does not exceed R$29 billion.

In terms of the expected minimum wage, the value represents an estimate, as it is based on factors such as the annual variation of the INPC until November. In addition, it is necessary to incorporate the 2022 GDP, recorded at 2.9%.
For the year 2024, a budget of R$5.5 trillion is projected. This includes spending on public debt and the fraction of R$151.3 billion earmarked for investments in state-owned companies.
