The Government has announced that it will make at least R$1,500 in emergency aid available to a segment of the population. The intention of this amount is to help families cover the costs of renting a decent place to live. In addition, we have revealed the criteria for obtaining this financial support.
The intense rainfall that impacted Rio Grande do Sul resulted in a high number of homeless individuals due to flooding, especially in the Taquari River Valley. In this scenario, the state government chose to allocate a portion of its funds to grant R$ 500 to people forced to abandon their homes.

Administrative representatives state that this measure is a response to support those who are in one of the 22 temporary shelters. In an analysis conducted by state entities on September 20, it was observed that more than 700 individuals were displaced.

How will the emergency R$ 500 be implemented?
As reported by the Rio Grande do Sul Social Assistance Secretariat, emergency aid will have a base value of R$1,500. The precise amount of aid will only be established after receiving a survey carried out by state governments, containing the total number of homeless people.
Furthermore, the responsibility for transferring the amount to the recipients lies with the city governments. Thus, the funds will be sent to the municipalities as an addition to the State Social Assistance Fund. It is important to note that, so far, only residents of the cities below are eligible to receive the amount:
- Middle Stream;
- Hills;
- Southern Cross;
- Enchanted;
- Star;
- Paved;
- Muslim;
- Roca Sales;
- Saint Teresa;
- Taquari;
- Venancio Aires.
Criteria
The Rio Grande do Sul executive also established the requirements for obtaining the emergency R$ 500, allowing city halls to add others, depending on local peculiarities. The criteria are as follows:

- Be registered with CadÚnico (Single Registry);
- The family per capita income must be a maximum of R$ 660;
- Be able to demonstrate that you lost your home due to the recent floods.
