The Lula government, since the beginning of 2023, has canceled the registration of 2.9 million beneficiaries of Family Allowance. This data is exclusive to Metrópoles.
According to the MDS (Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight Against Hunger), the cancellations occurred between January and September this year.
It is worth noting that these cuts were foreseen by Lula since the beginning of his term. Thus, the PT member intends to remove beneficiaries from the program who do not fit the rules.
What is the reason for the cuts to Bolsa Família?
The MDS indicated that these cuts are part of yet another government review, which aims to pay only those who meet pre-established criteria. Therefore, these cancellations began at the beginning of the year, when the government alleged that 1.2 million beneficiaries had higher incomes than those established by the program.
It is important to highlight that despite the cuts, Bolsa Família was also boosted with some additional benefits, such as R$ 50 for the Variable Family Benefit for families with dependents aged 7 to 18, pregnant women and nursing mothers.
How do I know if I will stop receiving it?
Cancelled users will be informed via SMS and bank statement, as established by the MDS. However, it is possible to check your registration status through the Bolsa Família app (Android and iOS).
Families may stop receiving aid in cases of:
- Registration inconsistencies;
- End of the Emancipation Rule of Brazil Aid;
- Lack of data update.
Can I receive it again?
This is only a possibility for beneficiaries who stopped receiving the amount due to lack of registration updates or non-compliance with health and education rules.
Therefore, if this is your situation, you must go to the Bolsa Família service center where you registered to regularize the situation.
