This change is part of a series of modifications that Bolsa Família has undergone since March, under the leadership of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. With these changes, approximately 21 million recipients received benefits.
Standard and Supplementary Payment
The standard Bolsa Família amount is now R$ 600. In addition, since March, the government has been providing an extra R$ 150 for up to two children from zero to six years old.
This means that families can receive amounts of R$ 600, R$ 750, or R$ 900. With the additional R$ 50, the final Bolsa Família payment can reach nearly R$ 1,000.
Supplement for Young People, Pregnant Women, and Nursing Mothers
The additional R$ 50 is intended for young people aged seven to 18, pregnant women and breastfeeding women. However, it is vital to emphasize that these groups must meet specific education and health requirements to access the additional benefit.
The family must have a monthly income of up to R$ 218 per person to access the increase. In other words, the family’s total income, divided by the number of members, must be less than R$ 218.
Health and Education Obligations
In addition to meeting the financial criteria, families must also fulfill obligations in the areas of health and education to access the benefit. This involves prenatal care, compliance with the national vaccination schedule, nutritional monitoring of children under seven years old and minimum school attendance.
Caixa Econômica Federal and the New Bolsa Família
Caixa Econômica Federal administers Bolsa Família payments. The first installment, with the new additional R$ 50 for families with pregnant women and children aged 7 to 18, was paid in June.
Minimum, Average and Maximum Benefit
The minimum benefit is R$ 600. However, with the new additional payment, the average benefit amount rises to R$ 705.40, the highest in the program’s history.

The total benefit amount can reach R$ 900 for those who qualify to receive both additional payments.

New Name and Guaranteed Minimum Amount
Since the beginning of the year, the social program has resumed the name Bolsa Família. The minimum amount of R$ 600 was guaranteed after the approval of the Transition Constitutional Amendment, which allowed the use of up to R$ 145 billion outside the spending cap this year, of which R$ 70 billion is allocated to finance the benefit.
