The dialogue on changes to the Bolsa Família values will only begin in 2024. This was explained by Wellington Dias, head of the Ministry of Social Development and Fight Against Hunger, at a conference for journalists.
This conference followed the festivities marking the two decades of the program. In the context of the celebration, the minister pointed out that multiple variables influence the decision to modify the aid.
Among them, we can mention the current value of food, fluctuations in the minimum wage and economic indicators such as exchange rate variations and the appreciation of the dollar.

The common conjecture was that such adjustment would be included in the 2024 Annual Budget Bill, which was submitted to Congress on the last day of August.
However, when scrutinizing the submitted project, the absence of the aforementioned correction was observed.
Paulo Bijos, responsible for the Federal Budget portfolio, pointed out that the omission of this adjustment in the project does not signal a lack of concern for Bolsa Família.

Bolsa Família's 20th anniversary
On a recent Friday, the 20th, Bolsa Família celebrated two decades, being recognized as one of the most outstanding mechanisms for transferring resources.
Established in 2002, during the administration of former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, this program now reaches a large number of Brazilian households, totaling approximately 21.4 million in our territory. The average amount transferred is R$$ 688.97 per month.
Coordinated by the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight against Hunger, its purpose is to amalgamate different social welfare policies.
Its central scope is to ensure that vulnerable families can enjoy vital rights, including health, education and social support services.
The milestone was celebrated at the Ministry of Social Development, with the participation of notable personalities, including Wellington Dias, Marina Silva and Rita Serrano.
Additionally, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the visionary behind Bolsa Família, joined the event via online broadcast. While recovering from medical interventions, Lula was at the Alvorada Palace.
In his speech, Lula highlighted the crucial role of Bolsa Família in combating food insecurity and reaffirmed his commitment to eliminating hunger in Brazil by the end of his term in 2026.
Focus on investments for young people
Since its reformulation in March 2023, Bolsa Família has strengthened its contributions, targeting primarily children and young people.

Recently, in October, the program embraced the Variable Family Nursing Benefit, totaling R$ 50 for homes with newborns up to 6 months old.
This initiative seeks to enhance the nutrition of lactating mothers, reaching around 280 thousand infants. The investment amounts to R$13.9 million.
Also, the Early Childhood Benefit (BPI) will allocate resources to 9.58 million children aged 0 to 6, valued at R$150.00. It represents a state investment of R$1.36 billion.
It is important to mention that other programs have seen an increase in their contributions. The total amount distributed by Bolsa Família in October reached a surprising R$2.11 billion.
It is important to note that these values focus on the well-being of babies, children, adolescents and pregnant women throughout the nation.
In short, Bolsa Família is a key element in promoting equity and reducing poverty in our country, enabling access to essential services and fostering the education and health of millions of young citizens.
