Which elderly people can receive BPC?

The BPC (Continuous Benefit Payment) consists of the payment of a minimum wage to people with disabilities of any age and elderly people over 65 years of age. As it is not a type of retirement, there is no need to contribute to social security to guarantee its receipt.

However, there are some requirements that are mandatory for senior citizens who wish to apply for BPC. Firstly, as already mentioned, one must be over the minimum age of 65, as well as be Brazilian (or naturalized).

Furthermore, the maximum income per person within the family unit must be 1/4 of the current minimum wage. All this taking into account that the elderly person must not be able to support themselves in order to be eligible for BPC.

Registration in the Single Registry

It is important to note that BPC requires registration in the Single Registry. This is a registry that gathers information about citizens who receive various social benefits from the Federal Government, and is also mandatory for Bolsa Família, for example.

You can register by going to the Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS) closest to you. Since it is a “family” registration, you must bring the identification documents of all the residents of the house.

Access the page from the MDS for more information about registration, mandatory documents and more.
