New Caixa president expected to take office soon

Last week, the then president of Caixa Econômica Federal, Rita Serrano, left her position. Thus, Carlos Vieira will be the new president of the bank and will be sworn in on Wednesday (8).

The event is expected to take place at the Palácio do Planalto, according to information from Igor Gadelha, from Metrópoles. The first event will take place at 3 pm, at the Planalto, and the second will be a ceremony at the headquarters of Caixa Cultural, at 6 pm.

See below all the details regarding this new leadership and understand why Serrano left the position.

Who is the new president of Caixa?

Carlos Vieira is an employee of bank and has held the position of executive secretary of the Ministry of National Integration during Dilma's first government in 2012. It is worth noting that he was nominated for the position by Arthur Lira (PP), the current Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies. In addition to nominating Vieira, Lira is also negotiating the bank's vice-presidencies.

Carlos Vieira's appointment took place on November 3, during the All Souls' Day holiday, but the inauguration only took place on Wednesday.

Why did Rita Serrano leave her position?

The appointment of a new president for the bank unlocked economic agendas in the National Congress. In addition, it happened under pressure from Lira, who since July had been calling for a change in Caixa's leadership.

Therefore, it can be concluded that the appointment was made due to political pressure, as President Lula himself stated. The president also stated that Congress, together, has more than 100 votes and that he “needed these votes to continue the government”.

Even though Rita Serrano has left, she is expected to leave the bank only after the release of the quarterly balance sheet, which will take place on November 14.

Rita Serrano's statement about leaving Caixa

On her social media, Rita Serrano lamented her departure from Caixa, saying that “being a woman in positions of power is always challenging”. Furthermore, Serrano highlighted that she hopes to send the message that “misogyny must be confronted” and that women can hold leadership positions.

The article was published last Thursday (26) on Rita Serrano's website and on her social media. It is worth noting that Serrano was the fourth woman to serve as president of Caixa.
