For nearly three decades, we have witnessed consistent changes in Brazil's minimum wage. Let's explore the trajectory of this amount in depth.
In 1994, during Itamar Franco's administration, the Real Plan was put into practice, establishing the currency we know today, a move aimed at containing the acute inflationary crisis the country was experiencing. Thus, from that crucial point onward, we began using the minimum wage table as a reference.

With the currency change, which took place 28 years ago, the minimum wage saw an increase of more than R$ 1,200. At the beginning of 1994, the amount was R$ 64.79. However, still that year, an increase of 8.04% was applied to this amount.
Therefore, the established amount was R$ 70. Surprisingly, in the current year of 2023, the national minimum wage has already undergone two adjustments, now standing at R$ 1,320. However, reaching this figure required a long journey.
28 years of minimum wage adjustments
Right after the introduction of the Plano Real, in 1995, we witnessed the most significant adjustment in the amount allocated to workers. An increase of 42.86% raised the minimum wage to R$ 100. Subsequently, the most impactful increases occurred in 2003 and 2006.
Thus, the adjustments were, respectively, 20% and 16.67%, both carried out during the first term of the then president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Now, therefore, you will have the opportunity to examine the table with all the wage adjustments in Brazil over the years.

- 1994 – R$ 64.79 in July and R$ 70 in September;
- 1995 – R$ 100, representing an increase of 41.86%;
- 1996 – R$ 112, an increase of 12%;
- 1997 – R$ 120, an increase of 7.14%;
- 1998 – R$ 130, an increase of 8.33%;
- 1999 – R$ 136, an increase of 4.62%;
- 2000 – R$ 151, an increase of 11.03%;
- 2001 – R$ 180, an increase of 19.21%;
- 2002 – R$ 200, an increase of 11.11%;
- 2003 – R$ 240, an increase of 20%;
- 2004 – R$ 260, an increase of 8.33%;
- 2005 – R$ 300, an increase of 15.38%;
- 2006 – R$ 350, an increase of 16.67%;
- 2007 – R$ 380, an increase of 8.57%;
- 2008 – R$ 415, an increase of 9.21%;
- 2009 – R$ 465, an increase of 12.05%;
- 2010 – R$ 510, an increase of 9.68%;
- 2011 – R$ 540 in January and R$ 545 in March, respectively, an increase of 5.88% and 0.93%;
- 2012 – R$ 622, an increase of 14.13%;
- 2013 – R$ 678, an increase of 9%;
- 2014 – R$ 724, an increase of 6.78%;
- 2015 – R$ 788, an increase of 8.84%;
- 2016 – R$ 880, an increase of 11.68%;
- 2017 – R$ 937, an increase of 6.48%;
- 2018 – R$ 954, an increase of 1.81%;
- 2019 – R$ 998, an increase of 4.61%;
- 2020 – R$ 1.039 in January and R$ 1.045 in February, respectively, an increase of 4.1% and 0.58%;
- 2021 – R$ 1.100, an increase of 5.26%;
- 2022 – R$ 1.212, an increase of 10.16%;
- 2023 – R$ R$ 1.302 in January and R$ 1.320 in May, respectively, an increase of 7.43% and 1.38%.
