The Federal Government has begun updating the official app with the new amount of the national Gas Aid. Learn more.
Just a few days before payments begin, the Federal Government revealed the amounts it will allocate for the national Gas Aid this August. According to the app’s new update, all beneficiaries of the social program will receive R$ 108, regardless of the number of residents in the same household.

The amount of the national Gas Aid is determined based on the national average price of a 13-kilogram gas cylinder over the past six months. The National Petroleum Agency (ANP) sets this amount. Based on this determination, the Federal Government passes on 100% of the amount to beneficiaries.
As mentioned, the R$ 108 allocated for this August applies to everyone enrolled in the program. Therefore, neither the number of family members in the same household nor the individual’s per capita income matters. According to the Ministry of Social Development, Family and the Fight Against Hunger, the amount is uniform in all cases.
Consecutive decreases

This represents the third consecutive cut in the national Gas Aid since President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) took office this year. In February, the amount was R$ 112. Since that month, the amount allocated to beneficiaries has experienced consecutive reductions. Observe:
- February 2023: R$ 112 per household;
- April 2023: R$ 110 per household;
- June 2023: R$ 109 per household;
- August 2023: R$ 108 per household.
Even though the reductions are occurring under the Lula government, it is vital to understand that the cuts are not decisions made by the Planalto Palace or the Ministry of Social Development. It is a legal criterion requiring the government to transfer the equivalent of 100% of the average price of a gas cylinder.
Following this logic, if the average price of a gas cylinder decreases, it makes sense for the amount of the national Gas Aid to decrease as well. Experts predict that the downward trend will continue in the coming months of 2023, in line with Petrobras's outlook.
National Gas Aid disbursements
Unlike Bolsa Família, which disburses payments monthly, the national Auxílio-gás makes payments every two months. In 2023, payments have already been made in February, April, and June. The next ones are scheduled for August, October, and December.
In the Chamber of Deputies, there were debates about turning Auxílio-gás into a monthly payment scheme. However, the proposal did not gain majority support, and payments remained every two months.
Requirements for receiving Auxílio-gás in August

There is no direct application process for the national Auxílio-gás. The federal government uses CadÚnico data to select beneficiaries. Therefore, it is crucial to have an active and up-to-date account in this system.
In addition to CadÚnico, it is necessary to:
- Have a per capita income of up to half the minimum wage (R$ 660);
- Live with at least one member who is a beneficiary of the INSS Continuous Cash Benefit (BPC).
According to the Ministry of Social Development, some groups have priority. They are:
