Countless residents long for INSS benefits.
Last Monday, September 25, the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) began communicating with those on its waiting list, that is, individuals who needed to take leave from work and have been under review for more than 45 days.
Therefore, the communication is aimed at people who:
- Have had a medical examination scheduled for more than 45 days;
- Are waiting for approval of the temporary incapacity benefit, known as Sickness Benefit.
According to information from INSS, there are approximately 627 thousand individuals on the list of requests pending medical examinations.
Thus, according to INSS, interaction with beneficiaries will take place through the number (11) 2135-0135. It is therefore crucial to ignore any other number.

How will INSS communicate?
During the communication, the INSS representative will suggest replacing the in-person medical examination with the submission of a medical certificate. Therefore, the beneficiary will need to attach the document through the Meu INSS app or the official website.
According to Alessandro Antônio Stefanutto, president of INSS, this is innovative.
“It is an innovation, as it will allow Brazilians to avoid long lines for medical examinations by choosing to submit medical certificates. If the doctor verifies the data and it is consistent, we will speed up the process. If the certificate is rejected due to inconsistencies, we will schedule a medical examination.
Additionally, it is essential that everyone be aware of possible fraud and remain vigilant, as the agency does not request bank details or document numbers during contact.
“If someone calls claiming to be from INSS and asks for data or deposits, do not provide anything. If you suspect anything, hang up and call 135,” emphasized Stefanutto.
Is there a bill to eliminate the INSS waiting list?
On Tuesday, September 26, federal deputy Castro Neto will present a proposal aimed at eliminating the INSS waiting list.
Recently, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva asked the National Congress for a special credit of R$ 129.9 million to speed up social security services. Therefore, the Joint Budget Committee will analyze the bill.
The delay in granting benefits mainly affects vulnerable citizens. In this context, one-third of Brazilians in the queue have a disability and a low income.
Minister also wants the queue to end
The waiting list, which has more than one million people, has been the subject of debate.
In this regard, Carlos Lupi, Minister of Social Security, pledged to eliminate the queue as soon as he took office in January this year.
In addition, Lupi explained that we will implement partnerships and actions to reduce the INSS queue.
“Social Security is taking structural measures and forming partnerships,” highlighted the head of the Ministry of Social Security.
The minister also mentioned that the use of the Atestmed platform will be encouraged, simplifying the procedures for granting temporary incapacity benefits.
“We are promoting Atestmed, facilitating the submission of medical certificates for analysis and avoiding the need for in-person medical examinations,” Lupi specified.
According to Lupi, unions have supported the innovations.
“This innovation has the support of many unions. They are vital partners because they are in direct contact with workers,” he concluded.

National Social Security Institute begins advancing benefit payments
On September 25, the INSS began advancing payments for more than 706,000 beneficiaries in the Southern Region.
This means that the payment will not follow the usual schedule. All amounts will be released on the first business day.
Therefore, it is crucial to check the list of cities under a state of public calamity to find out who will receive the advanced payments. These residents may request an extra benefit payment, divided into 36 interest-free installments.
However, after requesting the extra payment, there is a review period of 5 business days. This extra payment may be divided into fewer installments in cases involving benefits with a shorter duration.
