Desenrola, the Federal Government's debt restructuring program, began its activities nationwide in July. Initially, it is divided into three phases. The first two began on June 17, covering the forgiveness of debts of up to R$100 and the reorganization of bank debts.

However, the Desenrola program aims to benefit approximately 30 million Brazilian citizens in default. In fact, those with debts of up to R$100 or a monthly income of up to R$20,000, with no limit on debts held with banks, can participate.

It is important to highlight that these individuals are part of Desenrola's tier 2. For them, banks must propose the restructuring of overdue debts through their communication channels. The banks participating in the government program will conduct the process directly with their customers.

Similarly, several banks have joined the federal Desenrola program, providing various options for customers to settle their debts without difficulty. In fact, negotiation is available to people in default, offering several advantages with these banks.

According to Febraban, since July 17, Desenrola has renegotiated R$2.5 billion in 400 thousand contracts. It also removed the negative credit listing of approximately 3.5 million defaulters with debts of up to R$100 within two weeks.

The Desenrola program, a campaign promise of President Lula, aims to facilitate debt renegotiation. Its objective is to remove a large number of citizens from the list of defaulters and boost consumption.

Febraban recorded the renegotiations in tier 2 of Desenrola Brasil. These are individuals with debts incurred by December 31, 2022, and a monthly income of up to R$20,000. As for tier 1, it removed debts of up to R$100 from the list of defaulters.

The Ministry of Finance estimated 1.5 million participants at the beginning of Desenrola Brasil. In short, the target was surpassed in the first week. Removal from the list of defaulters does not mean forgiveness of the debt; it will continue to exist.

In fact, the Desenrola Brasil program has proven successful. The population is seeking ways to pay off debts resulting from recent economic crises. During Covid-19, many companies closed, unemployment increased, and many people went into debt.
