DESENROLA BRASIL: CAIXA Reaches Surprising Amount in Debt Negotiations

Caixa Econômica Federal recently revealed updated data on debt negotiations through the Desenrola program.

The Desenrola program, a Federal Government initiative for debt renegotiation, continues to record high numbers since its official launch. This week alone, Caixa Econômica Federal stated that it has already regularized R$ 606.6 million in debts across 41,500 different contracts. In total, this benefited more than 30,000 customers.

The number of customers served is lower than the number of contracts assessed. This is because a person may have more than one debt with the same bank. Even so, Caixa Econômica Federal celebrated the partial result. Recently, the institution's president, Rita Serrano, stated that Desenrola is already a success.

It is also essential to note a detail in this matter. The figures released are only from Caixa Econômica Federal. At Banco do Brasil alone, for example, more than R$ 500 million has already been renegotiated since the program began.

Considering all negotiations with the banks participating in Desenrola, the renegotiated amount has already reached R$ 2.5 billion, according to information from the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban).

“Caixa recognizes the relevance of renegotiation campaigns to restore the financial citizenship of thousands of Brazilians and reduce indebtedness in the country, and promotes broad dissemination of the Desenrola Brasil conditions across various platforms,” Caixa Econômica Federal stated.

Negotiation conditions at Caixa

The Ministry of Finance informs that each bank defines the conditions for negotiating debts. At Caixa, they are:

  • One-time payment with up to 90% discount;
  • Installment payments over up to 120 months, with adjusted rates, and payment of the first installment after 30 days. Here, payment of a down payment and the IOF is required.

In addition, anyone who has a debt with the bank should contact the institution's official channels. At Caixa Econômica Federal, these include:

  • Access the website;
  • WhatsApp (0800 104 01 04);
  • CAIXA Cards, CAIXA Housing and CAIXA Tem apps;
  • Call 4004–0104 or 0800 104 0 104;
  • Visit a nearby branch.

Debts up to R$ 100

The Federal Government asked the banks participating in Desenrola to remove the delinquency status of people with debts of up to R$ 100. Since Caixa joined, it must do so as well.

Attention: this does not mean debt forgiveness. The person must still pay, but their name is already cleared for credit assessments.

  • Group 2: people with a per capita income of up to R$ 20,000, debts only with banks, and debts registered by December 31, 2022.

Currently, Desenrola serves only Group 2. The intention is to begin serving Group 1 starting in September, according to the Ministry of Finance.
