A study conducted by the Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese) reveals that the ideal minimum wage for June reached R$ 6.578,41. However, reality is different, as the current minimum wage is set at R$ 1320, since the latest update in May.

In other words, the ideal value is almost five times the current amount set by the government. Compared to the same period in 2022, a reduction can be observed, when the necessary minimum reached R$ 6.527,67, with the minimum wage at the time being R$ 1.212.
When preparing the monthly survey, Dieese considers the cost of basic food items in 17 Brazilian state capitals. This is based on the constitutional principle that advocates that the minimum wage should meet the basic needs of a family of four.
Impact of the drop in the price of the basic food basket on the minimum wage
According to the study, the cost of the basic food basket decreased in 10 of the 17 capitals surveyed. However, a worker earning a minimum wage needs to work an average of 113 hours and 13 minutes to purchase all the items.
Of the cities analyzed, São Paulo has the most expensive basket (R$ 783,05), while Aracaju has the cheapest (R$ 567,11). It is worth noting that, even in the capital of Sergipe, the price increased compared to the previous month.

It is worth remembering that, until May, the national minimum wage was R$ 1302, set according to the guidelines of the Bolsonaro government. As part of his campaign promises, President Lula (PT) managed to raise the amount to R$ 1320.
