This Wednesday (13), Caixa Econômica Federal released a withdrawal of up to R$ 6,220 for Brazilian citizens. Thus, a specific group will have the chance to make a special withdrawal from the end of September until the end of November.

This is the so-called calamity withdrawal. This amount is associated with the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS), and the financial institution allowed this operation in three states. Therefore, individuals from these regions can check their FGTS balances if they have available amounts in their accounts.

Calamity withdrawal through Caixa Econômica
Initially, to qualify for the payment from Caixa, the employee must meet certain requirements: live in one of the included cities, have their place of residence recognized by the Municipal Civil Defense, and not have made a withdrawal for the same reason in the past year.
Currently, Caixa allows withdrawals from the Severance Indemnity Fund due to a public calamity in a total of 51 Brazilian cities. Some states on the list include Alagoas, Paraná, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina.
Therefore, those who live in Picada Café (RS) can make the withdrawal until September 25, 2023. Meanwhile, residents of Joaquim Gomes (AL) have more time, until October 7, 2023. Finally, professionals residing in Coronel Domingos Soares (PR) have until November 27, 2023.
How can I check my FGTS due to a public calamity?
To withdraw this amount through Caixa, those interested can use the FGTS app, which is compatible with Android and iOS systems. When entering the app, some personal information must first be provided. Then, under “My Withdrawals,” select “Other Withdrawal Situations” and subsequently “Public Calamity.”

It is also necessary to specify the city where you live and submit documents such as identification and recent proof of address.
Additionally, you can choose between two ways to receive the funds: “Credit to Account” or “Withdrawal at the Counter”. Once the process is completed, Caixa requests a wait of up to 5 business days for the institution to analyze, approve, and transfer the requested amount.
