The Office of Student Affairs (Proaes) provides emergency assistance to students at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS) who are facing temporary financial challenges. In this text, we will discuss how to qualify for and request this assistance.

Understanding Emergency Assistance

Proaes provides emergency assistance to support UFMS students experiencing temporary and unexpected financial difficulties that could interrupt their education. This support differs from other student aid, specifically targeting those who have experienced sudden changes in their socioeconomic situation.

To be eligible for emergency assistance, you must be regularly enrolled in an on-campus program at UFMS. In addition, you must demonstrate that you are experiencing vulnerable circumstances, such as unemployment of the student or financial sponsor, death of the financial provider, serious illnesses listed by the World Health Organization (WHO), breakdown of family ties, and moving from another municipality to study at the federal university.

Process for Requesting Emergency Assistance

The application for emergency assistance takes place in two stages:

  1. Initially, it is necessary to update the student's profile in the Academic System. At this stage, the student must provide the per capita income shown on the summary sheet of the Cadastro Único (CadÚnico), attaching the duly signed document.
  2. Next, the student must access the Selection System to complete and submit the application form, attaching all documents that prove the declared situation.

Time to Apply for Emergency Assistance

The call for applications runs continuously throughout the 2023 academic year. Applications and document submissions must be made by the fifth day of each month, and interviews with students will take place between the 10th and 15th, with assistance expected to be received by the 10th day of the month following the application.

Duration and Amount of the Benefit

Emergency assistance lasts for three months and may be extended once in 2023 for the same period, upon a new request from the beneficiary student and review by the pro-rector's office. The amount received is similar to that of other student assistance funds; however, the number of grants must not exceed 20.

How to Check the Gas Aid?

To check the Gas Aid, you can access the Citizen Portal of Caixa Econômica Federal and log in with your registered CPF and password. Then, click on “Gas Aid”, followed by “Check installments”. Alternatively, download the Bolsa Família app, log in and check the upcoming benefit installments.

Changes to Government Benefits
