For many families, the benefit is crucial to their budget. The anxiety of those who benefit from Bolsa Família is intense as they want to know how much they will receive next year. This is because, during this period, the government is deciding on the budget for 2024. This is the period when the amounts that will directly influence the public budget are established, projecting revenue and expenses.
The Ministry of Social Development is already preparing an estimate of the number of people Bolsa Família will reach next year. This makes it easier to estimate when the government will need to release funds to support the social program. Before the end of this year, they will announce the decision, but there is already a proposal under consideration.

What will change in Bolsa Família?
A possible adjustment is expected; however, no major increases or significant variations in the amounts distributed are anticipated. Thus, the average amount proposed for 2024 may not be as attractive as many imagine.
Today, 20.9 million families benefit from Bolsa Família, but this number may vary with new inclusions and exclusions. To qualify, it is necessary to be registered with the Cadastro Único and have a per capita income of up to R$ 218, demonstrating a condition of financial need.
For now, no changes to these criteria are expected. Thus, the current rules will remain in effect. This includes the health- and education-related conditionalities, such as:
- Ensure that all vaccines are administered according to the vaccination schedule;
- Undergo regular prenatal care;
- Ensure school attendance according to the required standard.
How much will be available through the social program in 2023?
The Federal Government is considering a 4% adjustment to Bolsa Família, which would entail an additional expense of R$ 5.6 billion. The program’s current fund amounts to R$ 168 billion, considering that the minimum benefit is R$ 600 per month, with some families receiving more depending on their composition.
The current average Bolsa Família payment is R$ 683.22. If the adjustment is approved, it would rise to R$ 710.50. Although it may seem like a minimal difference, this increase would add an extra R$ 560.98 million to government expenses from March to December 2024.
The increase is expected to take effect in March, marking one year since the relaunch of Bolsa Família. This 4% increase aims to partially offset inflation, given that the current projection is 4.8%.
The change in the benefit will also affect the additional payments, which are currently R$ 150 for children up to 6 years old, and R$ 50 for pregnant women, breastfeeding women, and individuals between 7 and 18 years old.

Payment schedule for October
The payment calendar will maintain its current structure, based on the last digit of the NIS (Social Identification Number) and the final days of each month. In summary, the payment schedule is as follows:
- With NIS ending in 1 – Payment on October 18;
- With NIS ending in 2 – Payment on October 19;
- With NIS ending in 3 – Payment on October 20;
- With NIS ending in 4 – Payment on October 23;
- With NIS ending in 5 – Payment on October 24;
- With NIS ending in 6 – Payment on October 25;
- With NIS ending in 7 – Payment on October 26;
- With NIS ending in 8 – Payment on October 27;
- With NIS ending in 9 – Payment on October 30;
- With NIS ending in 0 – Payment on October 31.
