Women are the majority in the Bolsa Família program

Currently, approximately 20.89 million families are part of Bolsa Família, the largest income transfer program in Brazil. Of this total, 83.4% are families headed by women, which corresponds to 17.4 million family units. Thus, the social program impacts a total of 31,933,700 million women (58.1%).

Thus, the state with the highest number of female heads of households is Goiás, where they represent 89.4% of the beneficiaries. Thus, according to Wellington Dias (PT), Minister of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight against Hunger, the government has “a special focus on black, indigenous, homeless women, that is, those who need it most”.
