The intense rainfall that affected Rio Grande do Sul left a large number of people homeless due to flooding, especially in the Taquari River Valley. In this scenario, the state government decided to allocate part of its funds to grant R$ 500 to people forced to leave their homes.

Administrative representatives state that this measure is a response to support those staying in one of the 22 temporary shelters. In an assessment conducted by state entities on September 20, it was observed that more than 700 people had been displaced.
How will the emergency R$ 500 be implemented?
As reported by the Social Assistance Department of Rio Grande do Sul, the emergency aid payments will have a base amount of R$ 500. The exact amount of the aid will only be established after receiving a survey conducted by the state municipalities containing the total number of people left homeless.
In addition, the responsibility for transferring the amount to the recipients lies with the municipalities. Thus, the funds will be sent to the municipalities as an addition to the State Social Assistance Fund. It is important to note that, so far, only residents of the cities below are eligible to receive the amount:
- Arroio do Meio;
- Colinas;
- Cruzeiro do Sul;
- Encantado;
- Estrela;
- Lajeado;
- Muçum;
- Roca Sales;
- Santa Tereza;
- Taquari;
- Venâncio Aires.
Criteria
The Rio Grande do Sul executive branch also established the requirements for obtaining the emergency R$ 500, allowing the municipalities to add others depending on local circumstances. The criteria are as follows:

- Be registered with CadÚnico (Single Registry);
- The family's per capita income must be no more than R$ 660;
- Be able to demonstrate that you lost your home due to the recent floods.
