The Social Security Council, through an ordinance, launched a Concentrated Effort by the INSS to shorten the waiting time for the benefit. It will run from August to November, in an attempt to ease the applicants' backlog.

What is BPC?
The Continuous Cash Benefit (BPC) is a program established by the Organic Law of Social Assistance (LOAS). Therefore, it is financial assistance for elderly people, retirees, and people with disabilities in situations of social vulnerability.
Thus, in these cases, it is possible to receive a monthly amount to supplement the family income. The admission process requires potential beneficiaries to prove the actual need or provide a medical report confirming incapacity for work.
Because of this, the process requires both document analysis and a medical examination for verification. Thus, it ends up being somewhat bureaucratic, which increases the waiting time and creates a backlog of applications.
Currently, the average time to receive a response regarding the benefit is 2 years. However, according to the Federal Court of Accounts, it can extend to up to 3 years in some more complex cases.
Who is entitled to participate in the INSS Concentrated Effort
The Continuous Cash Benefit is intended for retirees who are not covered by social security. In addition, people with disabilities who apply for social security assistance also participate in the INSS Concentrated Effort. Total household income may not exceed one-quarter of the minimum wage per person.
However, it is essential to provide all the required documentation and undergo a medical examination, proving the age or providing a medical report confirming the disability. A doctor from INSS itself will assess each case, determining whether assistance is genuinely necessary.

As mentioned, to receive the benefit, you must have an income of up to 1/4 of the current minimum wage per family member. Therefore, calculating it is very simple and ensures that you are entitled to the BPC amount.
First, check how many people in your household work, counting everyone who lives together. Then, add up the salary amounts to obtain your household's total income.
Next, divide this amount by the number of people who live in your household (those who work and those who do not). The result cannot exceed one quarter of the minimum wage. In 2023, this amount would be R$ 330.00 per person in the family.
Where can you apply for the BPC benefit?
To apply for the benefit and participate in the INSS concentrated effort, it is very simple. Therefore, simply gather all the necessary documents and go to a social security agency to apply in person.

Currently, according to data from social security itself, the waiting time to find out whether you can already receive BPC or a survivor’s pension is 1029 days. As a result, there is a very large backlog of applications for this type of benefit.
Thus, social security estimates that there are around one million applications in the queue awaiting review. Many elderly people and people with disabilities who are in vulnerable situations continue without any type of income or assistance.
Therefore, the Social Security Appeals Council (CRPS) will begin a concentrated effort by the INSS in August. The goal is to speed up the backlog and handle applications for these benefits, reducing the number of applications in progress.
At the same time, the Federal Government has also announced an additional bonus for INSS doctors and attendants. The goal is to make an extra payment to professionals who work during the concentrated effort.
