The health and education benefits enacted in 2022 have only now received concrete action. See the details!

At the recent meeting of the University Council (Consun), the State University of Rio de Janeiro (Uerj) announced that its employees will finally begin receiving the allowances planned last year.

The Economic-Financial Monitoring and Oversight Committee of the Fiscal Recovery Regime (Comisarrf) had previously not given the green light for such benefits. However, the allowances are now clearly defined, as explained below.

Considerations regarding the release

Law 9.602/2022 created a favorable condition for granting the allowances, including the merger of the State University Center of the West Zone (Uezo) with Uerj.

With the aim of preserving the rights of employees coming from Uezo and ensuring equality among everyone, the law determined that the rector should regulate the compensatory benefits.

Uerj will maintain Uezo's courses at the new Uerj Campus – West Zone, linking them to the Biomedical Center and the Center for Technology and Sciences. Classes will continue to take place at the Institute of Education's facilities.

Mário Carneiro, rector of Uerj, celebrated the approval, highlighting it as a major achievement for the academic community. He acknowledges the decisive role of the university's former rector, Ricardo Lodi, who signed the executive acts immediately after the approval of Law 9,602/2022.

Receiving the benefits and how to apply for them

Uerj will pay health and education benefits to its employees. Each benefit will amount to R$900, and the education benefit will be valid for each dependent of the employee between 7 and 24 years old. However, there is a monthly limit of R$2,100 for the benefits an employee may receive.

To apply for these benefits, the employee will need to complete an application form that Uerj will publish soon. This form will formalize the application and must be submitted with the dependent's birth certificate and a certificate of enrollment at an educational institution for verification.
