In just over 10 days since the launch of Desenrola, Caixa Econômica Federal has already settled more than R$ 448 million in debts.

Recently launched, Desenrola has already made it easier for many Brazilians to resolve their debts. This is evidenced by official data. At Caixa Econômica Federal, more than R$ 448.5 million in debts have already been settled.

Rita Serrano, the bank's leader, confirmed this news. According to her, this amount was officially reached on Wednesday night (26). In its most recent update, Caixa reported that approximately 22,000 individuals had adjusted their debts.

At the same time, 36,000 contracts were agreed upon during the same period. The total number of agreements exceeds the number of beneficiaries, since a single citizen may have several debts with the bank. The vast majority of beneficiaries obtained a 90% reduction in the amount owed.

“So far, more than 25,000 customers have approached Caixa to resolve their debts. Most paid in full, thereby obtaining a 90% discount on the debt,” said Serrano. She also emphasized that most of those who approached the bank for negotiations were women.

“This indicates that these families may regain access to credit. Improved consumption benefits the economy and promotes well-being,” Serrano emphasized. She also described the program as a major success.

It is worth noting that one of the requirements for a bank to participate in Desenrola is to remove the delinquent status of customers with debts of up to R$ 100. Since Caixa Econômica Federal agreed to participate in the program, it had to meet this criterion.

According to the bank, just over 225,000 Caixa customers were delinquent due to debts of up to R$ 100. With the institution joining Desenrola, these debts remain, but the people are no longer considered delinquent.

With this measure to clear the names of those who had debts of up to R$ 100 and negotiate with those whose debts exceed that amount, it is estimated that around 250,000 Brazilians had their names cleared solely at Caixa Econômica Federal thanks to Desenrola.

“The action we carried out on Friday generated a great deal of activity. Desenrola is a success. The volume of renegotiations increases every day,” said the bank’s president.

Desenrola

Desenrola was one of the key commitments of President Lula’s election campaign last year. The program’s main objective is to assist Brazilians in negotiating their debts. The program was officially launched just over 10 days ago.

Initially, the project serves two categories of people:

  • Category 1: people with a per capita income of up to two minimum wages, with debts of up to R$ 5,000 incurred by December 31, 2022;
  • Category 2: people with a per capita income of up to R$ 20,000, with bank debts incurred exclusively by December 31, 2022.

However, at this initial stage, the Federal Government’s Desenrola is serving only people in the so-called Category 2, meaning that only bank debts are being negotiated. Category 1, which includes people in situations of social vulnerability, will begin to be served in September.

To avoid fraud, anyone interested in negotiating their debt should contact the bank directly. In the specific case of Caixa Econômica Federal, a negotiation request can be made through the program’s thematic page on the Caixa website; via WhatsApp, at 0800 104 0104; and through the Customer Service Center at 4004 0104 (capitals and metropolitan areas) and 0800 104 0104 (other regions).
