The federal government recently launched the program Desenrola Brasil, aimed at renegotiating Brazilian consumers' debts. Consequently, in just one month of operation, consumers renegotiated approximately R$ 9.5 billion, according to information released by Febraban (Brazilian Federation of Banks).

Additionally, the Desenrola Brasil consolidated approximately 1.5 million debt-related agreements, involving approximately 1.1 million customers. These statistics cover the period from July 17 to August 18, and enrollment in the program remains available until December 31.

It should be noted that these figures, provided by Febraban, belong to Desenrola Brasil's Track 2. Thus, consumers who fall into this category can discuss their bank debts directly with the corresponding bank, benefiting from favorable terms.

Furthermore, this phase of Desenrola Brasil covers only bank debts of individuals with a monthly income exceeding two minimum wages. However, this income cannot exceed R$20,000, and consumers must not be registered with the Single Registry of the federal government's social programs.

During this specific period, from July 17 to August 18, approximately 6 million consumers with debts of up to R$100 regularized their situation, that is, they cleared their negative records.

However, this count refers only to banks. Therefore, the statistics do not include debts renegotiated with non-bank creditors. Finally, the deadline for customers to regularize their situation was July 27.

According to the Brazilian Federation of Banks, in a statement released, “Febraban emphasizes that each institution defines its strategy, adopting specific guidelines for participation in the program. At this stage, the renegotiation options vary, with each participating bank responsible for establishing them”.

As disclosed by the Ministry of Finance, Desenrola Brasil operates through a reverse auction among creditors, categorized by type of credit. Thus, the one offering the greatest discount will win the program, presenting the debt for discussion, with the certainty that it will be settled.

Furthermore, according to information from the federal government, the Desenrola Brasil is divided into three phases. Therefore, the first two began on July 17, with the possibility of settling bank debts of up to R$ 100. During the auction, banks may allocate funds to ensure the discussion of the debts.

As mentioned, the Desenrola Brasil has two segments, with the second covering those with a monthly salary above two minimum wages but below R$ 20,000, giving them the chance to discuss the debts directly with the banks.

On the other hand, the Desenrola Brasil Tier 1 Desenrola Brasil includes consumers with incomes below two minimum wages or enrolled in the Federal Government's Single Registry of social programs, who were listed as defaulters by December 31, 2022. In addition, Tier 1 can obtain funds to settle the debt through loans guaranteed by the FGO (Operations Guarantee Fund) of the government.
