Social Tariff
- What is the program?
The Social Electricity Tariff is a Federal Government program for people who are socially vulnerable. The intention is to ensure that these citizens receive a discount, allowing them to pay less toward this significant monthly expense.
- Who can receive it?
According to the Ministry of Social Development, to receive the benefit, you need to have an active CadÚnico registration and a per capita income of up to R$ 660. People registered with CadÚnico who have an income between R$ 661 and R$ 3,960 may also receive it if they live with someone who needs an electrical appliance.
People over 65, and people with disabilities who receive the Continuous Cash Benefit (BPC) from the INSS, are also entitled to the Electricity Social Tariff discount.
- What is the discount?
The discount on the energy bill varies according to household consumption. In general, the more the family saves, the greater the discount. See the table below:
- 0 to 30 kWh = 65% discount;
- 31 kWh to 100 kWh = 40% discount;
- 101 kWh to 220 kWh = 10% discount;
- 221 kWh onward = 0% discount.
In the latter case, those who qualify for the program do not receive discounts because the Ministry considers that they would use more energy than recommended.
- How to apply for the Tariff?
There is no direct application for the Electricity Social Tariff. According to official information, you should check your registration in CadÚnico, as the Government automatically determines who will receive the benefit.
- How to check with your CPF?
With the Meu CadÚnico app, you can check your account and verify that all your registration details are correct. If they are outdated, update them to get the discounts. An easier way to check is to look at your electricity bill, as utility companies normally indicate whether you are receiving the discount.
Green flag in August

Not eligible for the Social Electricity Tariff discounts? No problem. This week, Aneel stated that it will keep electricity bills under the green flag. This means everyone will have a cheaper electricity bill in August, regardless of whether or not they participate in the Social Electricity Tariff. Aneel plans to maintain this charge at least until the end of this year.
