Desenrola Brasil in action

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's presidential campaign brought the promise of the Desenrola Brasil program, a joint effort to renegotiate individuals' debts. The government aims to clear debtors' names and stimulate consumption, restoring Brazil's economic strength. It is expected that approximately 70 million people will benefit from the program, which serves debtors with a gross income of up to two minimum wages or those registered in the Single Registry (CadÚnico).

In the first phase, renegotiation is only available for Tier 2 of the program, aimed at people with a monthly income of up to R$ 20,000. Banco do Brasil took the opportunity to expand renegotiation options to customers outside the program, including micro and small businesses.

The results of the renegotiation

In total, Banco do Brasil negotiated R$ 1 billion in debt during the week. Approximately 75,800 customers benefited from special renegotiation terms, including participants in the Desenrola Brasil program and micro and small businesses. Of the nearly 76,000 customers, approximately 34,000 are in Tier 2 of the program and renegotiated more than R$ 255 million.

First stage of Desenrola Brasil

The first stage of Desenrola Brasil began on January 17, with two parallel actions. The first action helped people with debts of up to R$ 100, due by December 31, 2022, clear their names, that is, be removed from the negative credit registry. In this case, the debt is not forgiven, but the customer can regularize it.

The second action aims to assist indebted individuals, with no debt amount limit and an income of up to R$ 20,000. Here, financial institutions offer the chance to renegotiate debts in exchange for the advance of tax credits, that is, tax discounts. The government made R$ 50 billion in advance credits available, proportional to the discounts granted.

Advantages of Desenrola Brasil

Desenrola Brasil brings numerous benefits to participants. In addition to the chance to settle their debts, customers can clear their names, which facilitates access to credit and financial services. Renegotiation also seeks to boost consumer spending, stimulating the domestic economy and contributing to Brazil’s economic growth.

Next phases of the program

Following the success of Desenrola Brasil’s first week, Banco do Brasil and the federal government intend to continue renegotiating debts. The expectation is that more people will benefit in the next phases, covering different income brackets and expanding the program’s reach to serve more debtors.

The Desenrola Brasil program, implemented by the government in partnership with Banco do Brasil, aims to provide debt renegotiation and financial regularization for thousands of Brazilians. By expanding renegotiation options beyond the program, the bank demonstrates its commitment to helping not only Desenrola Brasil participants, but also micro and small businesses. This initiative is expected to help revive the country's economy, benefiting both debtors and the market in general.
