Teachers in the city of Goiânia will see a 14.95% increase in their minimum salary, thanks to the approval of a bill sanctioned by Mayor Rogério Cruz (Republicanos) last Wednesday (21).
The new adjustment will raise educators’ average salary to R$ 4,420.55. Mayor Cruz emphasized that this measure reflects the directive of the Ministry of Education (MEC), with the aim of honoring teachers and education. The increase will be implemented in two parts, the first in June and the last in October.

Benefits granted to educators in Goiânia
The adjustment is not the only benefit for teachers. They will also receive bonuses such as classroom management pay, transportation allowance, and bonuses for research, training, and specialized technical-educational activities. These benefits will reach approximately 9,500 teachers.
In his statement, Mayor Cruz emphasized the essence of education in our society, stating: “This highlights our commitment to prioritizing education in our investments. Recognizing teachers’ work means investing in the future of our city. I am extremely pleased to confirm and announce this adjustment for our educators”.
Persistent investments in education – a constant movement in the city
This adjustment is the second in less than a year. For example, last year, the group saw a 15% increase in the minimum salary. According to the 2023 law, they will make the payments in installments of 7.50% starting on April 1, and starting in October, the installments will be 7.45%.
Furthermore, Mayor Cruz stated that there are plans for more discussions with the unions, aiming to expand the benefits to more areas of education.
“Last year, we paid three base-date adjustments, for 2020, 2021, and 2022, in addition to the teachers’ minimum salary and several career plans. We will continue our studies and dialogue with the union so that we can address other needs of public servants” – Rogério Cruz.
