President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) approved a bill this Wednesday (28), which has the potential to bring substantial changes to a broad spectrum of professionals. Thus, the new bill indicates an 18% salary increase that, if approved by the National Congress, could benefit a wide range of workers.

This initiative comes in response to a salary increase request presented by the Federal District government in February this year. The request sought an 18% increase in the salaries of certain groups of workers.

In response to this request, President Lula approved the bill and forwarded it to the National Congress for consideration and approval. Learn more!

Who will benefit from the salary adjustment?

The bill endorsed by Lula aims to benefit security force professionals in the Federal District. More specifically, the groups that will receive the 18% salary adjustment are military police officers, civilian police officers, military firefighters, and pensioners.

These groups were specifically selected for the salary increase after being excluded from a previous bill that granted a 9% raise to public servants. The measure was voted on in April.

The Chamber will likely review the bill next week

According to the president of the Legislative Chamber of the Federal District (CLDF), district representative Wellington Luiz (MDB), Congress is expected to consider the salary increase bill next week.

The proposal stipulates payment of the first 9% installment later this year, with the balance paid in 2024. However, it is vital to emphasize that the salary increase bill is still subject to consideration and approval by Congress. In addition, the final conditions of the salary increase may still undergo changes during the legislative process.

The president of the Civil Police Union of the Federal District (Sinpol-DF), Enoque Venâncio de Freitas, stated that the bill represents a fundamental step toward implementing the salary increase for employees.

Freitas expressed his gratitude to President Lula for recognizing the efforts of the capital’s civil police officers. “This is a fundamental step toward reclaiming our dignity,” said the union leader.
