Fake ‘0800’ call center
One of the most notorious scams of 2023 was the so-called “Fake ‘0800’ Call Center” scam. In this scam, criminals posed as bank employees and convinced victims to contact a fictitious call center. Thus, the goal was to make the victim believe the story and eventually provide access to their bank account. This scam exploited people’s trust in customer service, resulting in significant losses.
PIX Copy-and-Paste Scam
Another criminal strategy that gained prominence was the “PIX Copy-and-Paste Scam.” Scammers took advantage of the PIX instant payment system, especially the option to copy and paste the key PIX. They created misleading ads on Google which, when clicked, infected victims’ computers with malware. In this way, the malware intercepted the code copied by the victim and replaced the store’s PIX key with the criminals’ key, resulting in a direct payment to the scammers.
Government programs
Government debt renegotiation programs have also become targets of scams. Criminals infiltrated platforms such as YouTube, directing victims to fraudulent links that led to chatbots designed to carry out scams. As a result, these chatbots promised exorbitant discounts on debts and collected personal information, exposing victims to significant risks.
Fake concert ticket website
A common scam involved creating fake websites that sold concert tickets, including events by major artists. As a result, many victims fell for these scams when buying tickets from “other fans” via WhatsApp, highlighting the importance of verifying the authenticity of purchasing websites and avoiding suspicious transactions.
In all these cases, digital education and vigilance become essential to avoid falling into virtual traps. Therefore, it is crucial for users to be aware of these deceptive tactics and know how to protect their information and resources online.
