Alongside Minister of Health Nísia Andrade, President Lula (PT) confirmed excellent news for nurses: after nearly 9 months since the measure was approved, the salary adjustment will take place.

In a statement on Wednesday (05), the president declared that the Federal Government would pay the adjusted amounts, including retroactive payments through May of this year. This information comes after a decision by the STF on the matter.
The minister guaranteed that 9 installments retroactive to May, payments from June through December and, finally, the 13th salary would be considered.
Announcement comes after STF decision
On the previous Friday, the Federal Supreme Court authorized payment of the nurses’ minimum wage in the public sector. The discussion is still ongoing for the private sector.
STF ministers Luís Roberto Barroso and Gilmar Mendes voted in favor, provided there was a procedure to finance public spending. All the other ministers followed their votes.
In this way, the Federal Government will comply with the STF's decision, preserving nurses' minimum wage in the states and municipalities, with incentives and transfers from the Union.
Lula makes further comments on the nursing minimum wage
At an event in Brasília, the president emphasized that, although some consider the transfer expensive, nurses are responsible for taking care of us when we fall ill. He also emphasized that nursing, like medicine, should not be devalued.

Additionally, in his speech, Lula highlighted that these professionals' work during the pandemic prevented a greater number of deaths from COVID-19 and criticized former President Bolsonaro (PL), referring to him as a “genocidal maniac”.
Finally, when confirming payment of the nursing minimum wage, he assured that the Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, will remain in office, despite recent requests for a ministerial replacement.
