Many people forgot to withdraw the 2023 PIS/Pasep salary bonus, which is based on the year 2021. Thus, according to the MTE (Ministry of Labor and Employment), 153,567 registered workers did not withdraw the amounts.

Forgotten money
It is important to note that the money refers to the 2021 base year, so to receive the amount, you must have worked under a formal employment contract in the previous year. Another important detail is that, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, payments are delayed by two years.
In addition, to receive the money, you must have been registered with PIS/Pasep for at least five years and still have updated data in the Annual Social Information Report.
The amount varies according to the number of months the person worked. Therefore, only those who worked 12 months in 2021 receive the equivalent of one full minimum wage. It is worth noting that Brazilians can withdraw the amount until December 28, since after this period the installments will be returned to the Worker Support Fund.
How does PIS work?
It is important to note that PIS is a contribution that companies pay into public coffers. Thus, this amount is used to pay unemployment insurance and workers’ salary bonus.
In other words, the program focuses on transferring money to low-income workers. PASEP is similar, but it is only for public employees.
The correct approach is for these two benefits to be paid in the year following the base year, but as mentioned before, due to the pandemic, this is not happening. This is because payments were delayed, and they now occur with a two-year interval from the base year.
