This measure covers overdue property tax for the years 2022 and 2023. The Finance Department reported that the payment slips sent by mail will be for payment in a single installment, due on July 31, 2023.
Issuance of overdue property tax through the portal or app
Rio de Janeiro City Hall will send a letter with the overdue property tax payment slip to property owners with outstanding debts. In addition, taxpayers will also have the option to print the payment slips through the Carioca Digital system.
When using the digital system, taxpayers will be able to access the payment slips at any time. Another advantage is the possibility of choosing between a single payment or installments. It is worth noting that payment after the due date will result in a fine and interest charges.
How can I check whether my property has outstanding debts?
Residents of Rio who wish to check whether their property has overdue property tax can also use the Carioca Digital system. To do so, they must request a Certidão de Situação Fiscal e Enfitêutica, which can be issued online and free of charge.
