Brazil's educational landscape is about to undergo a significant transformation. Thanks to the new legislation enacted by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), high school students experiencing financial vulnerability will receive important financial support. The initiative, which reflects the Federal Government's commitment to education and the well-being of the underprivileged population, promises to be a milestone.
Currently, Brazil has approximately 8 million students enrolled in high school. However, it is important to note that not all of them will be eligible for the monthly benefit of R$200.

The program, although it still has no official name, is already being called “High School Scholarship.” With a budget of more than R$6 billion, the project aims to assist low-income students by providing them with financial support of R$200 per month for ten months. This results in annual savings of R$1,000 until the end of the 3rd year of high school. The benefit will be distributed based on data provided by the Education Departments, eliminating the need for students to submit a specific application.

Eligibility criteria for the aid
It is expected that around 2.5 million young people will be able to benefit from this initiative. To be eligible, students must meet specific criteria. First, they must be beneficiaries of Bolsa Família. In addition, the program is intended for young people between 19 and 24 years old who are enrolled in the program Youth and Adult Education (EJA). Another fundamental requirement is to be registered in the Single Registry for Social Programs of the Federal Government (CadÚnico).
In addition to these criteria, students must maintain a minimum attendance rate of 80% of school days to advance to the next grade. Participation in national examinations, such as the Basic Education Assessment System (Saeb) and the National High School Exam (Enem), is also mandatory. These measures aim not only to provide financial support, but also to encourage students to remain in school and pursue academic excellence during high school.
The new R$200 benefit for high school students is more than financial assistance; it is an investment in Brazil’s future. By supporting education and facilitating access to essential resources, the government is paving the way for a more educated and skilled society.
