Bolsa Família represents Brazil's largest social program, providing assistance to millions of low-income families. However, some factors may reduce the value of this benefit, and it is crucial for beneficiaries to remain vigilant.
One factor that may reduce Bolsa Família is an increase in family income above the program's limit of R$ 218 per person. This happens, for example, when a family member obtains a job, retirement benefit, pension, or starts receiving BPC (Continuous Cash Benefit).
Thus, members will still receive Bolsa Família, but it will be reduced by half. In addition, the family will continue receiving this reduced amount for another two years under these circumstances.
Benefit amounts may also decrease due to old payroll-deducted loans. This situation was possible when the program was called Auxílio Brasil and had not yet been restructured. Therefore, loan installments may reduce the benefit by up to R$ 160 per month.
Finally, there are cases in which the government completely cuts off Bolsa Família. This only occurs in more serious situations, such as when the family does not have its data updated in the Cadastro Único, and there is suspicion of fraud.
This year, the government massively cut registrations for one-person households, as many beneficiaries registered this way were also part of other families, receiving Bolsa Família twice.
Bolsa Família Additional Benefits
Bolsa Família includes the Family Variable Benefit, which pays an additional R$ 50 to program beneficiaries if the family has pregnant or breastfeeding women and young people between 7 and 18 years old. In addition, the social program also offers the Early Childhood Benefit, which pays an additional R$ 150 for each child up to six years old in the family.

In June, Bolsa Família began paying more per person in the family. This is the Citizenship Income Benefit, which pays R$ 142 per member of the family benefiting from the program.
However, the minimum amount of R$ 600 per family is still maintained, meaning that if this amount is not reached with installments of R$ 142, the Complementary Benefit will come into effect to make up the benefit amount.
Another possibility of a payment reduction
We highlight three ways in which the Benefit amount may decrease, but there is another. This happens when the family's child gets older, changing the additional benefits the family may receive.
For example, a six-year-old child guaranteed an additional R$ 150 for the beneficiary family under the Bolsa Família Early Childhood Benefit. However, upon turning 7, this benefit can no longer be received
Thus, with the child now seven years old, the Bolsa Família beneficiary family begins receiving the Family Variable Benefit, which guarantees only an additional R$ 50 in program payments.
