Did you know that Brazilians under 18 who participate in the Bolsa Família program could receive an additional amount?
Young people who are part of Bolsa Família have the chance to receive an additional amount. However, they need to meet the conditions established by the Ministry of Social Development and the Fight Against Hunger (MDS). Essentially, this assistance is aimed at families facing social vulnerability and registered with CadÚnico (Single Registry for Social Programs of the Federal Government).

Which benefit helps young Bolsa Família beneficiaries?
With the change in government, uncertainties arose regarding this group’s eligibility for Auxílio Brasil aimed at young people. As the name suggests, Auxílio Brasil Jovem consisted of a payment for Brazilians under 18.
To receive this benefit, it was essential to be enrolled in a school. Currently, many people wonder whether young people in the Bolsa Família program can also receive an extra amount.
Can young Bolsa Família recipients receive an additional amount, similar to Auxílio Brasil?
First of all, it is important to clarify how Auxílio Brasil Jovem worked. Individuals enrolled in the income transfer program, if they were of school age, had the chance to receive an extra amount from the Federal Government. However, to receive this benefit, they had to stand out in sports activities.
In reality, this benefit aimed to encourage sports and was not exactly an extra amount. With the change in government, there were changes to the guidelines for income transfers. It is important to note that Auxílio Brasil is no longer in effect, which is why Auxílio Brasil Jovem also ceased to be offered.
Currently, young Bolsa Família recipients have the chance to receive an additional benefit through the income transfer program. However, its implementation differs from that of Auxílio Brasil.
In fact, it is an additional amount, not an incentive. That is, everyone in this age group is entitled to receive the benefit, regardless of whether they are involved in sports activities. The Ministry of Social Development (MDS) provides an additional R$ 50 for children aged 7 to 18 within families. In addition, there are three other additional income transfer benefits aimed at different groups.
- The Early Childhood Benefit (BPI) – intended for children up to six years of age. The additional amount is R$ 150.00 per child, with eligibility for up to four installments of the benefit;
- An additional R$ 50 intended for pregnant women;
- Finally, there is an additional R$ 50 for breastfeeding women, that is, women who are nursing.
It is crucial to emphasize that, in addition to the additional benefits for young people under Bolsa Família, the government has changed how the benefit amount is calculated. Families with five or more members receive R$ 142.00 per person.
Find out what the requirements are to receive Bolsa Família
