Bolsa Família represents Brazil’s main resource transfer mechanism. Every month, the Federal Government pays this benefit to millions of families in socially and economically vulnerable conditions throughout the country.
In fact, Bolsa Família is not the government’s only assistance instrument. There are other assistance programs through which the government meets the fundamental needs of Brazilians whose family income does not grant them full access to the rights guaranteed by the Federal Constitution.

Cadastro Único Amount
Essentially, the government has various methods for identifying and categorizing low-income citizens in the country, with Cadastro Único (CadÚnico), overseen by the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and the Fight Against Hunger (MDS), being one of the most notable.

CadÚnico facilitates access to various Brazilian assistance programs, such as Bolsa Família. However, being registered does not guarantee automatic inclusion in these programs, since each has its own rules for accepting new beneficiaries.
Therefore, being registered with CadÚnico does not grant immediate access to Brazilian assistance programs. However, to be eligible for any benefit, registration in the Cadastro Único is mandatory.
Procedure for Registering with CadÚnico
According to Federal Government regulations, CadÚnico was developed to include economically disadvantaged families in social assistance programs. Therefore, only low-income citizens are permitted to register and receive social assistance.

- Families with a monthly income of up to half the minimum wage per member (R$ 660);
- Families with a total monthly income of up to 3 minimum wages (R$ 3,960);
- Families with a monthly income above half the minimum wage per member that are enrolled in or seeking to participate in programs or benefits that use Cadastro Único;
- Homeless individuals, either alone or with their family.
To register in the government data system, you must go to a Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS) or a Cadastro Único registration office. There, the individual will be interviewed about the family structure.
Documents Required by CRAS for Bolsa Família
Attending the CRAS allows people to answer questions about income, expenses, and characteristics of the household and family members. The answers must be honest, avoiding the suspension of benefits due to discrepancies in the information.
At the CRAS or Cadastro Único registration office, the person responsible for the family must mandatorily present their CPF or voter registration card to complete the registration. For the other family members, one of the following documents must be presented:
- Birth Certificate;
- Marriage Certificate;
- CPF;
- Identity Card;
- Work Card;
- Voter Registration Card.
After the interview, if they do not already have one, the citizen will receive the Social Identification Number (NIS). With the NIS, families can benefit from social programs linked to CadÚnico.

Caixa Econômica carries out the transfers over the last ten business days, following the users’ NIS final digit. Thus, each day, a different group receives the amount in their accounts. The transfers began last Monday (18) and will continue until the end of this month.

- NIS ending in 1: September 18 (RELEASED);
- NIS ending in 2: September 19 (RELEASED);
- NIS ending in 3: September 20 (RELEASED);
- NIS ending in 4: September 21 (RELEASED);
- NIS ending in 5: September 22 (RELEASED);
- NIS ending in 6: September 25;
- NIS ending in 7: September 26;
- NIS ending in 8: September 27;
- NIS ending in 9: September 28;
- NIS ending in 0: September 29.
In summary, the NIS enables the Federal Government to identify citizens who benefit from social programs in Brazil. Therefore, keeping documents up to date and paying attention to data changes, when necessary, are crucial actions to prevent the cancellation of Bolsa Família.
Caixa Econômica will still make five more deposits for NIS holders ending in 6, 7, 8, 9, and 0 next week. Families in these groups should be attentive so they do not miss the opportunity to receive the benefit amount as soon as it becomes available.
Finally, beneficiaries can access the amounts through the Caixa Tem app. However, those who wish to withdraw the money in cash can go to a bank to complete the transaction.
