One-Person Households in Bolsa Família: Clarifications on Document Digitization

The process of digitizing documents to confirm Bolsa Família data takes place at the CRAS. The head of the family must bring the original documents and supporting documents to the location; submitting copies is not necessary.
Digitization transforms the physical document into a digital file and, afterward, you need to forward it to the MDS.
Below are some of the main questions from one-person families regarding the digitization of documents for Bolsa Família:
- One-Person Families with New Registration:
If you registered before July 31, 2023, and have not yet enabled the update, you need to do so and carry out the digitization procedure. According to Annex 1 of IN No. 4 of 2023, the program will only admit your participation upon uploading the necessary documentation. Without this, they will be excluded. - Blocked or Canceled One-Person Families:
If your registration was blocked or canceled and you already updated your data before July 31, you do not need to digitize the documents for now. However, if you wish to reverse the status, it is advisable to follow the program’s guidelines and carry out the digitization promptly. - Unlocked Families Receiving Benefits:
You did not receive a new summons to digitize the documents, but it is recommended that you digitize them as a preventive measure.

The MDS, through Ordinance 911 of August 25, stipulated that at most 16% of Bolsa Família beneficiary families may consist of a single person, applied per municipality. If you are already receiving the benefit and meet all the rules, it will be maintained.
Why 16%?
The Bolsa Família Newsletter states that there was a 73% increase in single-person families in the Cadastro Único between 2021 and 2022. IBGE data from 2022 show that only 15.9% of households consist of one resident. The increase is due to several factors, including greater life expectancy and women's autonomy. The MDS chose 16% because it is aligned with IBGE data.
