The objective of this initiative is to reduce default rates in the country and help indebted people pay off their debts. Desenrola Brasil is expected to begin in July.
However, Caixa Econômica Federal, which has approximately 148 million customers and is one of the country's main banks, has not yet confirmed its participation in the program, which has caused concern among customers who have debts with this public institution.
Possibility of Caixa not participating in Desenrola
Several banks, such as Bradesco, Banco do Brasil, Itaú and Santander, have already confirmed their participation in the federal government's debt renegotiation program and will offer special discounts and installment plans.
However, Caixa is in the process of holding meetings with the bodies responsible for the initiative to discuss the matter and is still assessing the measure before making a decision about its participation in the program.
However, according to experts, the success of Desenrola will depend on the participation of all creditors, since there is no point in having a debt renegotiation program if the banks that have debtors do not participate in the initiative and do not offer facilities for paying off the debts.
Desenrola Tiers
Desenrola will be divided into the following tiers:
Tier I: people who earn up to two minimum wages or are registered in the Single Registry for Social Programs of the Federal Government (CadÚnico);
Tier II: individuals with debts at the bank.
Payment terms
For those who fall into Tier I, it will be possible to renegotiate debts registered up to December 31, 2022. If payment is made in installments, the first installment will only be due after 30 days. The interest rate will be 1.99% per month.
There are no government guarantees for Tier II. Therefore, those who fall into this tier may negotiate their debts directly with the banks, which will receive government incentives to increase the supply of credit. This will allow for more discounts to be granted.
