Completion of July Bolsa Família Payments by Caixa: Details for Beneficiaries

On Monday (31), Caixa Econômica Federal completed the July payments for Bolsa Família. Beneficiaries with NIS ending in 9 received the benefit today, representing the last group to receive it this month.

Following the Bolsa Família guidelines, the benefit transfer takes place during the final ten business days of each month. The payment sequence depends on the beneficiaries' final NIS digit. Thus, each business day allows a new group to access the money.

Beneficiaries can view the amount through the Caixa Tem app. However, those who wish to withdraw the money can go to any bank branch to make the withdrawal.

Bolsa Família Protection Clause

In summary, Bolsa Família is Brazil's main income transfer program. In July, the program served 20.9 million people, targeting families in situations of social vulnerability.

Relaunched in March, the program replaced Auxílio Brasil, bringing several changes with it. One of them is the Protection Clause, which protects beneficiaries from losing the benefit in a specific situation.

The new Bolsa Família guidelines allow users with a monthly income of up to R$ 218 per family member to join the program. However, if their income exceeds this amount, beneficiaries do not immediately lose the benefit.

Even when violating the income requirement, insured families continue to receive the benefit for another two years. However, the amount is reduced to 50% of the original payment.

According to the government, 2.2 million beneficiaries are protected by the Bolsa Família clause. These families can use the two years of payments to balance their finances and prepare for the future without the benefit. July is the second month of payment under this new program rule.

Minimum Bolsa Família payment

Another Bolsa Família rule establishes the amount received by each family member. This is the Citizenship Income Benefit, which guarantees a payment of R$ 142 for each member of the family registered in the Single Registry (CadÚnico).

The rule is valid for single-person families, guaranteeing R$ 142 to the individual enrolled in the social program. However, the Federal Government supplements the payment to reach the minimum amount of R$ 600 per person enrolled in Bolsa Família.

Thus, families of up to four people, which would be entitled to a maximum of R$ 568 (R$ 142 x 4) per month, receive the minimum amount of R$ 600, since any amount below this threshold is supplemented by the government.

The minimum payment of R$ 600 will not be paid to Bolsa Família beneficiaries who have already taken out the Payroll Loan. In these cases, the loan deductions are made directly from the benefit amount, meaning some families in the country may receive less than R$ 600.

Although the social program has a guaranteed minimum payment, there are no rules regarding a limit on the amount received. In other words, beneficiaries may receive much more than R$ 600. And this has become increasingly common, as the Federal Government has started paying additional benefits to recipients.

Check out the additional Bolsa Família benefits:

  • Early Childhood Benefit: since March 2023, the government has paid R$ 150 per child up to six years old.
  • Family Variable Benefit: guarantees an additional R$ 50 for children and young people aged seven to 18, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women who are members of the family.

In summary, the First Childhood Benefit has been paid since March, while the Family Variable Benefit began in June. Both helped increase the benefit amount for millions of families with children, young people, pregnant women or breastfeeding mothers.

For example, a family consisting of two adults and three children, aged 2, 4 and 6, will receive the minimum amount of R$ 600, plus R$ 150 for each child up to six years old (R$ 150 x 3 = R$ 450). Therefore, the benefit amount will be R$ 1,050 for the month (R$ 600 + R$ 450).

In addition, the amount may be even higher if there are more members who are entitled to additional benefits, such as pregnant women or children and young people between seven and 18 years old.
