An estimate presented by the director-general of the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), Sandoval Feitosa, indicated that the electricity bill should have an average increase of 6.9% in 2023. This amount may vary according to the region, with the North being the most impacted, with an increase of 17.6%.

However, few people know that there is a program called the Social Electricity Tariff, created by a 2002 law, which offers discounts to consumers who fall under the Low-Income Residential Subclass. Through this social program, it is possible to obtain discounts and even exemption from the electricity bill. Check it out!
The Social Electricity Tariff is intended for people who meet at least one of the following requirements:
- Be registered in the Single Registry for Social Programs of the Federal Government (CadÚnico), with a monthly family income equal to or less than half the minimum wage (R$ 660.00) per person;
- Be a beneficiary of the Continuous Cash Benefit (BPC);
- Have a family income of up to three minimum wages (R$ 3.960,00), provided that there is a person with an illness or disability (physical, motor, hearing, visual, intellectual, or multiple) in the family who is undergoing medical or therapeutic treatment requiring the continuous use of electrical equipment. In this case, the family must also be registered with CadÚnico.
Discount on the electricity bill
The discount on the electricity bill offered by the Social Tariff varies according to the beneficiary's consumption. Check it out!
- Up to 30 kWh: 65% discount;
- From 31 to 100 kWh: 40% discount;
- From 101 to 220 kWh: 10% discount;
- Above 220 kWh: no discount.
For Indigenous and Quilombola families registered with CadÚnico, the discounts are different:
- Up to 30 kWh: 100% discount;
- From 31 to 100 kWh: 40% discount;
- From 101 to 220 kWh: 10% discount;
- Above 220 kWh: no discount.
It is important to note that the Social Tariff is granted automatically to families who are eligible, so it is not necessary to apply for the benefit.
