The employees earned the same salary as Mayor Fabíola Alves (PSDB), who increased her monthly income three times in the previous year. Under the “salary cap law,” no worker may earn an amount greater than or equal to that of the mayor, who kept her fixed salary.
Employees receive surprise
The announcement shocked the employees, who said they had received the notification by email. Gabriel Rangel, the Secretary of Administration, and Rodrigo Criguer Rodrigues, Director of the Human Resources Department, signed the “internal notice”.
Prepared on June 27, the statement only became public last week. Healthcare will be the sector most affected by the application of Constitutional Amendment 41/2003. A local teacher expressed her dissatisfaction with the decision:
“What caused outrage was the city government suddenly implementing a career plan, and we reached the ceiling. These are my achievements; I took several courses… Why establish a law to benefit teachers who improve their qualifications and receive a salary increase, without anticipating that this would affect their own pay?”.
