Desenrola Brasil and Nubank: Is inclusion in debt restructuring certain? Find out!

The “Desenrola Brasil” program, established by the Federal Government, aims to renegotiate Brazilian citizens’ debts. Thus, the first phase of the program has already begun this week, with the goal of helping around 30 million Brazilians settle their financial obligations.

Regarding the operation of “Desenrola Brasil”, the Ministry of Finance explains that it will take place through a reverse auction among creditors, categorized by type of credit. Thus, those offering the largest discount will gain access to the program, making the debt available for renegotiation and having payment guaranteed.

This indicates that several financial institutions may join the “Desenrola Brasil” program, such as Nubank, one of the largest digital banks in the world and widely used by Brazilians.

However, according to Finance Minister Fernando Haddad, Nubank is still considering its participation in “Desenrola Brasil”. This hesitation stems from the fact that Nubank is entitled to little presumed credit.

If Nubank chooses to join “Desenrola Brasil”, approximately 2.5 million Brazilian bank customers may benefit from debt renegotiation, enabling them to clear their records.

Desenrola Brasil program brackets

“Desenrola Brasil” has two brackets. The first includes individuals who earn up to two minimum wages or are registered in the Cadastro Único, and who had their names listed as debtors by December 31, 2022.

In this regard, Brazilians in this bracket may renegotiate debts of up to R$ 5,000. Payment will be made all at once or in up to 60 installments, with a discount and reduced interest.

The money to settle these debts may come from loans with a financial institution, guaranteed by the federal government’s Fundo de Garantia de Operações (FGO).

The second bracket of “Desenrola Brasil”, according to the Ministry of Finance, is only for bank debtors. Here, renegotiation is direct between customers and banks, without an FGO guarantee.

More details about debt renegotiation

According to the federal government, “Desenrola Brasil” will take place in three stages. The first two have been in effect since Monday (17), and may eliminate bank debts of up to R$ 100. During the auction, banks may use funds to ensure the negotiation of the debts.

However, “Desenrola Brasil” will not negotiate certain types of debts. Check below which debts are not included in the renegotiation program:

  • Rural credit debts;
  • Obligations guaranteed by the Union and debts owed to public entities
  • Debts with provision for public funding;
  • Debts without the credit risk being fully assumed by financial institutions;
  • Debts with interest rate equalization by the Union.

Finally, participating in the “Desenrola Brasil” program is quite simple. Users just need to register on the website and select the option “Sign in with gov.br”.
