The Ministry of Social Development (MDS) announced that Bolsa Família beneficiaries will be able to receive installments exceeding the current minimum wage. This adjustment results from a revision of the benefit calculation, taking into account the number of family members, regardless of gender or age.
According to the MDS, the initiative aims to establish greater equality in the program, ensuring a fairer distribution of resources. Many beneficiaries may receive up to R$ 1,420 per month through Bolsa Família.

Beneficiaries may receive R$ 1,420 from Bolsa Família in October
First of all, it is crucial to understand the structure of the Bolsa Família amount. According to the MDS's updated guidelines, the initial payment amount is set at R$ 600, ensuring that all families receive at least this amount each month.
However, a new regulation has renewed the program, allowing families to receive amounts higher than the national minimum wage. This is due to the establishment of a minimum income per family member.
Under this new regulation, funds will be divided according to the number of family members. Each individual must receive a minimum of R$ 142. Therefore, larger families will receive greater benefits.
See below the distribution of payments according to the family structure of those registered:
- Families with four members: R$ 600;
- Families with five members: R$ 710;
- Families with six members: R$ 852;
- Families with seven members: R$ 994;
- Families with eight members: R$ 1.136;
- Families with nine members: R$ 1.278;
- Families with ten members: R$ 1.420.
In addition, Bolsa Família bonuses granted by the Federal Government depend on the family structure. Therefore, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and young people between 7 and 18 years old may receive an additional R$ 50. Children up to 6 years old are also covered, receiving an extra R$ 150.
October 2023 payment schedule
Bolsa Família payments for September are nearing completion, and beneficiaries can already check the upcoming payment dates. Caixa Econômica Federal manages the deposits and organizes the payments according to the last digit of the beneficiaries' NIS (Social Identification Number).
October Bolsa Família payments are scheduled to begin on the 18th and continue through October 31. Below, see the full official schedule:
- Final NIS digit 1: October 18;
- Final NIS digit 2: October 19;
- Final NIS digit 3: October 20;
- Final NIS digit 4: October 23;
- Final NIS digit 5: October 24;

Who is eligible to receive Bolsa Família in 2023?
To join Bolsa Família in 2023, the maximum per capita income must not exceed R$ 218 per month, and the family must be registered with CadÚnico (the Federal Government's Unified Registry for Social Programs).

Through this registry, the Federal Government identifies families eligible for the benefit and grants it after an assessment.

In addition, after joining the program, families must comply with its conditions, essential rules for continuing to receive the benefit. See the rules:
- Registration with CadÚnico must be renewed whenever there are changes to the family information or every two years if there are no changes;
- Children, adolescents, and pregnant women must keep their vaccination records up to date;
- Children between 4 and 5 years old must have at least 60% school attendance;
- Children aged 6 and over must have at least 75% school attendance;
- Pregnant women must attend prenatal appointments;
- Women and children up to 7 years old should receive nutritional monitoring.
