We can say, without exaggeration, that most Brazilian citizens are familiar with the Bolsa Família program. This income redistribution mechanism, operating in Brazil for 20 years, assists more than 21 million family units.
These beneficiaries recognize that the program has undergone several updates over time. In 2023, with the arrival of a new government at the beginning of the year, these changes became even more prominent. Therefore, it is essential for Bolsa Família beneficiaries to keep up with the new rules, as failure to comply may result in the immediate suspension of payments.

See the renewed Bolsa Família rules
As mentioned earlier, Bolsa Família has undergone several transformations over the years. In 2021, for example, then-President Jair Bolsonaro approved the name change of the program to Auxílio Brasil and set new amounts, granting R$ 600.00 per month.
With the arrival of a new government at the beginning of this year, new changes emerged. The changes were implemented at the beginning of the year and recently received official approval. Now, the program resumes the name Bolsa Família, but there are other innovations to note.
The government reinstated some previous rules. For example, families with children must ensure that vaccination records are up to date, and children must maintain a minimum school attendance rate of 75%. Children up to 7 years old also need to undergo mandatory nutritional monitoring.
Furthermore, it is vital to emphasize that updating the registration in CadÚnico is mandatory for beneficiaries who have experienced changes in their family situation. And it is crucial to remember that the income limit for participation is R$ 218.00 per capita.

In August, Bolsa Família will undergo some changes, especially regarding the amount, and these changes are positive. This month, Auxílio Gás will be included, representing a double benefit grant for all program participants. This is worth celebrating, since the double grant occurs only every 60 days.
Currently, the minimum Bolsa Família amount is R$ 600. Each family member receives R$ 142. Thus, the government has ensured that it will supplement the amount if it does not reach the stipulated minimum. Additionally, R$ 150 per child up to 6 years old, R$ 50 per child between 7 and 18 years old, and R$ 50 per pregnant woman are added to the benefit amount. With the August payment of Auxílio Gás, another R$ 112.19 will also be added. As a result, the family may receive more than a minimum wage.
The inclusion of Auxílio Gás is vital to ensuring food security for Brazilians, facilitating access to healthy and affordable food. This benefit is distributed every 60 days, limited to one benefit per family.
