Since the beginning of this year, the Federal Government, together with the Ministry of Social Development (MDS), has introduced several changes to the Bolsa Família program.
One of the first actions taken included cuts to the program. However, the number of beneficiaries whose payments have been blocked continues to increase daily.

So far, authorities have suspended the benefit for 930,000 families since January. Initially, the focus was on intensifying oversight of single-person registrations, that is, families with a single member.
This specific focus resulted from the sudden increase in such registrations in Bolsa Família. According to the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), single-person registrations accounted for 27% of all beneficiaries.
Thus, suspicions arose that families were splitting up so that multiple members could receive monthly payments, which goes against the program's guidelines.

In addition to suspicions involving one-person household registrations, other violations may result in the suspension of Bolsa Família. In fact, failing to meet certain requirements may cause participants to lose their monthly payments.
For this reason, registered participants need to be aware of all the program’s rules to avoid such risks. The main Bolsa Família guideline establishes an income limit of R$ 218 per capita.
However, it is crucial to be aware of the new guideline that the Federal Government recently introduced: the Bolsa Família Protection Rule. According to it, beneficiaries keep receiving the aid even if their monthly household income exceeds the limit, reaching up to half the minimum wage (currently R$ 660).
This Protection Rule ensures payments for an additional period of 2 years for this income bracket. However, the amount transferred will be 50% of the amount originally received by the beneficiary. Only after this period will the benefit actually be cut off.
Program participants must also pay attention to complying with other regulations. See below the possible causes for the suspension of the benefit:
- Updating the vaccination card of children, adolescents and pregnant women;
- School attendance below 60% for children aged 4 to 5;
- School attendance below 75% for children aged 6 and over;
- Absence of prenatal care for pregnant women;
- Failure to monitor the nutrition of women and children up to 7 years old.
What if the benefit is interrupted?
If your Bolsa Família is interrupted, first check whether you are meeting all the program requirements.
If you are complying with the rules but the benefit is still cut off, your registration may be out of date.

In both situations, it is essential to update CadÚnico. With it, the Federal Government can analyze all the information about your family and verify your eligibility to continue receiving Bolsa Família.
To update it, the head of the family must go to the nearest CRAS (Social Assistance Reference Center), bringing personal documents and those of the other residents of the household.
