Find out the reason for the government benefits suspension and what affected citizens should do next. Learn more!
This Monday (19), the government suspended the payment of 2,649 benefits. This action caused concern among several citizens who rely on these amounts to cover their daily expenses.
However, this suspension is lawful and mandatory for all social security beneficiaries who did not complete the 2023 Proof of Life. It is worth noting that this is the first time such a measure has affected beneficiaries linked to the Piauí Social Security Foundation (PiauíPrev).
Thus, of the 10,677 beneficiaries with birthdays between January and March, who had until May 31 to complete the Proof of Life, 8,028 met the requirement on time and continued receiving their payments.
Resumption of payments is conditional on beneficiaries regularizing their status
According to PiauíPrev, benefit payments will resume five days after beneficiaries regularize their status. To readjust their status, the pension fund advises beneficiaries to complete the Proof of Life through the “Meu RPPS” app, available for Android and IOS.
If the beneficiary receives more than one payment, they only need to complete the Proof of Life once for the State's own pension system. However, beneficiaries who are also state employees must choose the registration number of the benefits that require the Proof of Life.
What is the Proof of Life?
Every year, INSS requires all its long-term beneficiaries to complete the Proof of Life. The main purpose of this procedure is to ensure that the beneficiary is still alive, thus preventing possible fraud and improper benefit payments.
The deadlines for completing the Proof of Life depend on the beneficiaries' birth month and are valid from the beginning of that month, extending for an additional three months.
