AUXÍLIO BRASIL: How to find out if my data has been COMPROMISED and whether I will receive R$15MIL?
Auxílio Brasil represents a government effort intended to support citizens in situations of economic vulnerability in Brazil, previously known as Bolsa Família. However, concerns have recently emerged regarding potential compromises of the program participants' personal data. Auxílio Brasil Data Compromise
What happened?
Last year, under the administration of Jair Bolsonaro, it was revealed that the information of approximately 3.7 million Auxílio Brasil participants had been compromised. The compromise of this information enabled companies to use it improperly to market financial services and products, such as payroll-deductible loans. In addition, reports emerged that the compromised information benefited Bolsonaro in elections.
What data has been compromised?
According to Victor Hugo Pereira Gonçalves, leader of Instituto Sigilo, the compromised information included details such as address, phone number, date of birth, amount of aid granted, NIS (Social Identification Number), and data from participants’ records in SUS (Unified Health System), including CadSUS. This information represents 20% of participants in the Auxílio Brasil program in 2021.
How to confirm whether your information has been compromised?
The case incorporated evidence of the breach; however, under the General Data Protection Law (LGPD), this information is not publicly available. Nevertheless, the judge stipulated that Caixa Econômica Federal and the Union must send correspondence to all participants whose data has been compromised, informing them about what happened. Therefore, if the verdict remains in effect, participants whose information has been compromised will be notified at the end of the proceedings.
Caixa Econômica Federal’s Position
In response to the data breach, Caixa Econômica Federal, which managed the Auxílio Brasil program at the time, announced that it would challenge the court ruling. It also emphasized that, in an initial inspection, it had not detected any compromise of data under its management and that it maintains infrastructure capable of ensuring the integrity of its database and the protection of the Cadastro Único systems, in compliance with LGPD regulations.

Reimbursement for AUXÍLIO BRASIL
If the ruling stands, each participant whose data was compromised will be entitled to R$ 15,000 in compensation, reaching an amount that could exceed R$ 56 billion.
