The Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Hunger Relief (MDS) administers the new Bolsa Família Program and launched, in 2023, an extensive review of records, covering more than 21 million beneficiaries of the income transfer program.
Beneficiaries must keep their information up to date and accurate, thus avoiding blocks and exclusions.

In the context of this process, the MDS carries out regular checks on the information that beneficiaries provided in the Single Registry (CadÚnico) for Bolsa Família. If they suspect irregularities, the MDS blocks beneficiaries, summons them to update their data, and prove that they comply with the program's rules and requirements.
At present, checks are being carried out to confirm the information and the granting of Bolsa Família.
Amid this review, employees and representatives of city halls or Social Assistance Reference Centers (CRAS) are visiting a group of families in their homes. Wellington Dias, the Bolsa Família minister, announced these visits in March, which caused beneficiaries to wonder which families would be included.
It is important to emphasize that the inspection will not reach all beneficiaries. Therefore, there is no specific group based on the final digit of the Social Identification Number (NIS), for example. This situation occurs due to the lack of human resources at CRAS to visit all 21 million Bolsa Família families.
Due to this limitation, the Ministry of Social Development will prioritize two groups of beneficiaries to receive home visits. The first consists of citizens who live in remote and difficult-to-access areas, which prevents them from going to CRAS to update their registration. Thus, these families will update it at home.
The second group, which will receive home inspections, consists of those with strong indications of irregularities in their registrations. In these cases, the Federal Government will cross-reference data to verify the situation of these families and, if there are significant suspicions, will ask the city governments to visit the family in question.
In short, it is not possible to know exactly which people the investigation will confront. However, it is possible to get an idea of the groups of families that are likely to receive these home visits.

Nevertheless, it is always advisable to request these employees’ identification and receive them in a friendly manner, answering all the necessary questions.
Bolsa Família Update
All beneficiaries of the new Bolsa Família should pay attention to the messages displayed in the official app (available for iOS or Android) or on their statements when they receive the benefit. It is through these messages that the Federal Government will summon families to update their registration.
After the summons, a deadline is established for the person responsible to go to the CRAS to update their information and prove that they meet all the rules and requirements. If the deadline expires without the update being completed, the family may have their benefit blocked or even canceled. Therefore, no summoned beneficiary should wait for a home visit, in order to avoid missing the established deadline.
Additionally, it is important to remember that, when going to CRAS or the department responsible for Bolsa Família at the city hall, it will be necessary to present personal identification documents for all family members, as well as updated proof of income and residence. They may also request the children’s vaccination cards and school attendance certificates.
