Nowadays, many consider the Gas Voucher to be one of the government's main forms of assistance. After all, the gas cylinder is essential to everyday life in Brazil and has a significant price. How many beneficiaries does the Gas Voucher have?

First, it is worth emphasizing that the Gas Voucher operates with a “restricted number” of beneficiaries. The Federal Government allocates a specific amount to the program, without exceeding this sum.

For this reason, unlike other government assistance programs, this benefit has a smaller number of recipients. Currently, around 5.6 million Brazilians benefit from Vale-Gás. Bolsa Família, on the other hand, reaches more than 22 million.

What is the benefit amount?

The program, as mentioned earlier, aims to ensure that vulnerable families can purchase a 13-kilogram cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Initially, the assistance covered only 50% of the price of the cylinder, ranging from R$ 50 to R$ 60. However, recently, under Lula's administration, there was an increase in Vale-Gás. Through the Transition Amendment, the Union determined that this year's payments cover the full price of the cylinder.

So, what is the new amount of Vale-Gás? For now, this question remains without a definitive answer, since the amount fluctuates.

In short, the amounts vary with each payment. The National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) determines the amount based on the average price of the cylinder in Brazil, generally between R$ 90 and R$ 112.

Who is eligible for the benefit?

Many believe that receiving Bolsa Família automatically guarantees Vale-Gás. However, to be eligible, several requirements must be met. See the main criteria below:

• Maintain an active and up-to-date registration in the Single Registry for Social Programs of the Federal Government (renewal is mandatory every 2 years or whenever there are significant changes in the family);
• Have a monthly per capita income of up to R$ 660;
• Have at least one family member receiving the Continuous Cash Benefit under the Organic Social Assistance Law (BPC/LOAS).

Given the quota limitations, families with lower incomes are given preference when receiving payments.

Significant Change to Vale-Gás Confirmed by the Government

As mentioned earlier, the Federal Government announced changes to Vale-Gás. The changes are mostly related to how the benefit is checked.

Now, checking the benefit status has become easier and can be done by cellphone or computer. The verification is entirely online and can be completed quickly.

So, how can you check Vale-Gás payments in 2023? Below, we list all the options announced:

• Bolsa Família App (for Android and iOS) – Access it, log in and check all transactions, including Bolsa Família and Vale-Gás;
• Caixa Tem App (for Android and iOS) – Log in with your CPF and password, click on “statement” and go to “AUX GÁS” to view the details;
• CadÚnico App (for Android and iOS) – Log in and follow the app’s instructions to access social program data;
• Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship – Here, verification takes place by phone. Call 121 and provide your CPF and Social Identification Number (NIS).

Will there be Vale-Gás payments in September?

Unlike other programs, the benefit is not distributed monthly. In fact, beneficiaries receive it every two months.

Since the payments took place in August, there will be no deposits in September. In the following month, payments resume, following the Bolsa Família calendar according to the last digit of the NIS.
