Although Corpus Christi Day is not a holiday recognized throughout the country, many Brazilian cities decide to declare it as such, according to the judgment of state and municipal governments. Therefore, banks’ operations will be modified next week. This Friday (02), the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban) announced that banks will be closed on Thursday (08).
As the holiday is not national, the following Friday is considered a regular working day, with no interruptions to bank operations. Thus, in-person service to the public will resume on Friday (09), at the usual time.

Understand why they are closed on this day
Last week, the federal government announced that, on June 9, federal employees will have an optional workday. It is up to the states and municipalities to decree the same measure for their employees.
As bank branches will not be operating on this day, customers should consider alternatives for accessing their accounts. Therefore, users can carry out their transactions digitally through Internet Banking or bank apps.
Furthermore, customers can use ATMs according to the operating hours of the banks’ self-service areas. However, according to Febraban, utility bills, such as water, telephone, electricity, and others, as well as bills due on June 8, may be paid without a penalty on the following day.
Walter Faria, the Federation’s deputy director of services, explains that “generally, taxes already come with dates adjusted to the calendar of national, state, and municipal holidays.” Thus, you do not need to worry about penalties if you are unable to carry out your transactions on Corpus Christi Day.
For documents whose dates have not been adjusted, it is recommended that payment be made in advance or scheduled through ATMs, Internet Banking, or apps.
